Across the first and second decks, the Aqua Mekong houses 20 Designer Suites, each one a generous 30 square metres (320 square feet). Floor to ceiling windows allow guests to gaze on the Mekong from their day bed. Ten of the Design Suites have private balconies. The understated elegance, realised in modern, natural materials, continues into the ship’s social areas. In the sunlit dining room, fresh tropical flowers add a pop of colour against the polished wood floors and natural woven fibres. The cuisine of Michelin Star Executive Chef David Thompson of Bangkok’s Nahm restaurant is dished up on fine china, and wines selected by our sommelier are served in crystal glassware.
For Aqua Expeditions founder Francesco Galli Zugaro, the ultimate river safari combines all the creature comforts on board with an unparalleled experience exploring the area in small groups with local experts. In keeping with that vision, the 20 air-conditioned Design Suites, each a generous 30 square metres (320 square feet), and created entirely from local materials, offer the relaxed sophistication and comfort of a five-star resort.
In the comfortable refuge of the air-conditioned library, you’ll find aptly selected classics: Gentleman in the Parlour, The Lover, River of Time and others are set around the Mekong River.
Page through photography books on Southeast Asia, study river maps and hydrology charts, or keep up with the news in a selection of current magazines from around the world.
In the Games Room, you can keep your foosball skills up to scratch.
Relax on comfortable sun loungers in the outdoor lounges at either the bow or the stern on the Observation Deck level. At the front, there’s plenty of shade under a wide canopy, and the rooftop bar is fully stocked to mix the cocktail of your choice. Sip sundowners by the river-facing plunge pool or hop right in to take the edge off the equatorial heat after an excursion into the flooded emerald forest or among the colourful floating markets.
Watch the passing scene on the river from the infinity pool. The Aqua
Mekong is the only ship on the Mekong that features a Forward Facing Infinity
Upstairs on the Observation Deck, in the air-conditioned indoor lounge, settle into the sleek contemporary chairs modelled after Southeast Asian colonial planters. Sink into a plump couch angled to optimise the view of the engrossing, ever-changing Vietnamese and Cambodian landscapes through the floor to ceiling windows. At the back of the lounge, order a fresh tropical fruit cocktail from the fully stocked bar, or choose an Angkor beer or fine European wine. Wherever you go in this air-conditioned refuge, the river follows. Sliding doors lead onto the Observation Deck and the inviting plunge pool at the Outdoor Lounge..
